Bulk Shopping Is Your Best Friend

Do you find yourself just walking past all of the big bins of unpackaged goods at the grocery story? If you do, don’t feel bad. I did it for years. Then, one day, I finally got my life and decided to take a stroll through the unknown aisles. I kept it simple on my first trip and just picked up some organic rolled oats. My great awakening occurred in the checkout lane when I saw the cost. I’m a sucker for a steal, and my oats that day were a steal.

Since that moment, I’ve been buying bulk items on a weekly basis. I typically buy the following in bulk.

  • Oats

  • Quinoa

  • Lentils

  • Beans

  • Rice

  • Nutritional yeast

  • Walnuts

  • Almonds

Don’t be intimidated. It’s a really simple process. All stores are different, but typically you fill up your bag and label it with the PLU number that is listed on the bin. Some stores are extra fancy and you actually weigh your items at a station near the bulk bins and print off a label. Others, however, take care of the weighing for you at checkout.

Get yourself some cute canisters to store all of your goodies, and you will be a set! Just a note — I bought all of mine at TJMaxx (another steal)! They’re mix and match, but they’re perfect.

This week, take a stroll the bulk bin section at your grocery store, and see what you come up with. Be on the lookout for days when your grocery store significantly reduces the price of it’s bulk items. This will literally rock your world!
